camping gear

Camping Equipment
This 5 Gallon fold up collapsible water carrier is so handy.
When not in use stored away  it takes little room.
We use ours to store water for washing etc if the water is not the best
in areas that we visit, thus keeping our water tanks on our small 4x4 RV free for good water storage.

The Privacy Shelter
Review from a customer
After trying a couple of other brand/models it is a real pleasure to use the TexSport. Goes up easily & is very sturdy when pegged down correctly. Well designed & the 'extras' such as poly floor, towel bars, shower caddy, etc., are great. I like this unit best of all similar items available".
This Texsport  unit is a little bit heavy than the

Stansport Cabana Shelter shown right,  both are idea for change rooms and to put the toilet (Porta Potti) in.

Customer review on purchasing this product
"I used this toilet in my van for a week long winter camping trip in Southern Utah. It performed beautifully, flushed well, and had absolutely NO smell. The holding tank was easy to empty. The temperatures got down to zero, so a bit of anti-freeze was added to both the fresh water and holding tanks
I looked at the popular Sanitation Equipment toilet and almost bought it due to all the positive reviews. But this Thetford toilet seemed to be better because of a swiveling dump valve on the holding tank that always stays attached. The Sanitation Equipment toilet had a detachable dump valve that must be screwed on before dumping and then unscrewed after dumping"

Another satisfied customer.

Thank you for the reports

Tents

Family Tent

Review from a customer who purchased this tent
"I have to say that walking into this tent for the first time was a real treat. This is the first tent I have ever owned which allowed me to stand upright inside. The two smaller rooms on the back side are shorter, however, I think most people will use these rooms for storage. The room divider runs parallel with the front door of the tent, with a single zipper that runs from top to bottom in the middle. The two halves of the divider separate and tie up at the sides so you can comfortably walk underneath. It looks like the 17.5 foot wide back half of the tent will comfortably accomodate two queen sized air mattresses, which is what we plan to put inside. This leaves the front half of the tent to put our other items. Of course you will be able to set the interior up however you would like. There are little pockets all over the inside of the tent which will allow us to stow smaller items like keys, phones, kids toys, or even shoes. As far as the build of the tent is concerned, it seems well made with good solid materials and craftsmanship. The floor is not a solid piece, however, it is "a sonic-welded polyethylene floor" and I have no reason to believe that the welded seams would ever leak. As I said above the tent has been out in rainy conditions for five hours now. Even without seam sealer, the tent has only one very small leak in the back, and that leak has amounted to about half the size of a dollar bill. Not bad for steady rainfall. I will be buying a seam sealing kit soon and taking care of all of the seams inside. Once that is done, I think this tent will be everything we need and more for a family of four"

Kindles

"Amazon's claims that the Kindle 3 e-ink has 50% better contrast than Kindle 2 or other e-ink devices. I have no way of precisely measuring the improvement in contrast, but  the Kindle 3 display definitely has more contrast than Kindle 2 or Nook. The difference is noticeable, and important: more screen contrast means less eyestrain when reading in poorly lit rooms.
In well-lit rooms, the Nook and Kindle 2 have enough contrast to allow for comfortable reading. Reading in low-light conditions, like in bed at night, or in a poorly lit room in these situations, reading on Nook or Kindle 2 could be a bit uncomfortable . The Kindle 3 extra contrast is  noticeable, and mades it more comfortable to read under less-than-ideal lighting conditions."
The above is part of a feedback from a Amazon customer.
Kindles are proving popular within the camping world.

Camping at Country Music Festival weekend

Wow!!  What a great weekend we have just had at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival Weekend.
Lots of campers in tents ( like the one here on display) because this style of  tent is so easy to erect.
Other campers in caravans ( all shapes and sizes) Mobile Homes and lots more.
There were Bush Poets and Yarn Spinners there as well. Must mention Susie Carcary and Melanie Hall-  what a pair!  they are just brilliant.
You will find Boyup Brook is a small country town, roughly 3 to 4 hours south west of Perth in Western Australia. Beaut spot.
I did not even have time to bake some scones in my Camp Oven.

Weight loss program

Travelling and camping around as we do, started to put on a couple of extra kilos (pounds) so looked at this program  http://bit.ly/hAcCSWm.  Just putting it on our blog page for interested visitors.
Please lets know what you think.
We are going down country this weekend to a Country Music Festival.  Usually an exellent weekend to camp and listen to country music.  No Internet access there, so will be off the air until late Sunday 20th.

Camping Chair

Heavy Duty Folding Camping Fishing Director's Chair - Burgundy This chair is great, recent knee replacement on both knees for one of our customes made it difficult to get out of certain chairs. It is very easy to get out of this chair. Being heavy duty it is extremely confortable and our customer is   looking forward to putting the chair to good use over  summer. The side cooler and table top will come in handy
(note from another customer)
"This chair -- especially compared to the more widely available folding chairs are -- is very solid with an aluminum frame. The feet don't sink into the muddy ground which makes you feel much more secure. You have much more back support and sitting down and getting up maintains your dignity. The arms are comfortable (though the rubber cover kind of smells like tires but that is a small price to pay).
Setting up and taking down is a breeze and you don't have to worry about wrestling the thing back into a bag ... which is great when you are trying to get out of there quickly in the pouring rain.

Carrying it is not quite as convenient as a folding chair because you can't just throw it over your shoulder like a sling. But it is very lightweight and easy to carry and that is a small price to pay. I highly recommend this chair because as a portable folding chair, it comes as close to feeling like a "real" chair than any other folding chair I had found up until now" (unquote)

One Man Tent

5.0 out of 5 stars Good tent for bicycle touring
A lightweight solo tent that is easy to carry on a bike, and will accomodate  6' 3" height.
It is an one man tent if you only go camping once or twice a year.
The good points. This tent is easy to put up and bit more roomy than a bivy.It comes with two little storage pockets for glasses.
Packs tiny, weighs almost nothing, cool colors. Three high quality copper poles. Takes seconds to set up and the rainfly simply snaps into place with four adjustable snap lock buckles and a small pole (also secures with velcro and stakes for storms etc.).

Place the tent sideways into the wind it has a very small profile.

Cape Richie camping spot

On the coast between Albany and Bremer Bay there is an excellent camping spot with sheltered camp ground areas overlooking the beautiful coloured waters and white sandy beach of Cheyne Bay.
It is great for fishing, swimming, walking, boating, and when the wildflowers are out there is not much better.  The area is sheltered by a rocky headland which provides an ideal protected area for children. There are brick toilets ( with an external light on at night time), wash basins,  cold showers but a hook where you can hang your solar shower bag. There is a washing tap there and a rain water tank but with drinking water scarce  it is best if you can bring your own. There is a  Service Station on the way in and we found them very helpful and they allowed us to take some water just for drinking.  There is no power here but generators/invertors are allowed.  There is a caretaker in attendance and you only pay a small  fee to stay. Children under 16 yrs are free when we visited.  Camping is allowed for 7 days, because this is a small area and very popular especially during the school holidays. There is a 4WD boat launching ramp, and a couple of fish cleaning tables provided on a rocky point nearby.

2 Wheel drive vehicles and caravans can access this area.
Firewood is not supplied, so if you want a campfire ( not allowed in summer months) you have to bring your own with you as the vegetation around here is scrub not trees.
There are kangaroos that visit the park and walk around between the campsites.   It is not recommended to feed them.  They are friendly, but remember they are still a wild animal and therefore be aware when they are near you.
Best time to go is late winter and spring for the wildflowers, summer for swimming and autumn for beautiful weather.

Unfortunately no animals are allowed.
Be aware of rips and king waves along this section of coastline and also snakes are plentiful in this area so be careful when walking.  We were aware that the snakes were there, but had no problem.  There are several walks around the area and the views from the hills nearby looking over the ocean are just breathtaking.

Take the kids and get them to have a go a fishing anywhere not just here at Cape Richi.  Ours loved it when they were young,  now the Grandsons have their own rods and enjoy fishing whenever we take them.
On our website we can supply all fishing gear for kids up to adults.

Portable Fridges/Freezers

The camping public are now well catered for in the Fridge/ Freezer department by various well known brands on the market.
32L. Mid size suitable for 2 -3 people in a family sedan or small 4 WD’s.
Even a family day out this mid size is ideal to keep things cool.
40L. Suitable for 4 – 6 people on a weekend away or 2 people travelling for a couple of weeks.
Very popular size for a family of 4.
60L Has a large capacity suitable for larger groups.
This size is ideal for the keen fisherman.
Fridge/ Freezers also come in 65L. 80L. 90L. and 125L models to cater for everyone.
Fridge/Freezers are made in steel, aluminium, tough polypropylene constructions depending on the makers and models.
Most run very quietly with good performance and efficiency.
All brands are reliable, good durability and economical on power
Insulating Protective Covers to protect and improve the cooling performance of Fridge/Freezers are available and they are a good investment.
Our Fridge/Freezer has a handy addition on the top that fits into the top of the fridge called a “Two Zone”. It allows the bottom section to be a freezer and the top section to be the fridge giving us the best of both worlds without having to have two appliances.
Portable Fridge/Freezers operate on battery and electricity.

The Engel MT 60 is a popular Fridge http://amzn.to/hFlo1S

I  AM NOT FORGETTING CAMPERS WITH NO FRIDGE

For campers unable to take a fridge try to invest in a good COOLER BAG    http://amzn.to/i9Zxen
Before you leave on your holiday or weekend away, check there is ice available at your campsite/caravan park destination  just in case you might need some.
